Give us a Piece of Your Mind - Take the Survey
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about this site’s direction going forward.
We’re in the process of re-designing this site. So now is a good time to ask this question:
What kind of content would you prefer to see on this site?
Ivana Taylor (who is a wonderful marketer at Strategy Stew) has been kind enough to put together an online survey for Small Business Trends to get your input.
UPDATE April 6: THANK YOU! The survey is now over and we’ll share the results shortly.

I just finished your survey. I hope it helps! Although I’m sure whatever you come up with will be useful to all of us.

Thanks Amanda — you’re always so positive!
I am eager to see what comes out of it. We’ll incorporate changes based on the feedback. Either do more, or less, of certain features.

Hello Anita,
I’ve been a lurker here for a while. You have such an awesome site and i’m thrilled to see that you are always looking for ways to listen to your audience and improve. A rare approach and attitude.
I’d be interested to know if you are covering topics like retirement planning for small biz owners. One, that’s an area that myself and a client are working on exploring in a blog. Two, as the owner of a small consulting biz, i find i’m only able to look up from my daily snorkeling (as in i’m breathing from a snorkel and have my head underwater most days) and i want to be taking the long view more often. My client, and future partner in a new venture, has been helping people create smart retirement plans so they can invest in startups, buy investment property, etc.
The question i often face as a small biz owner is how do i plan for my future when i’m heads down on running my business. I know a lot of the obvious financial planning answers, but i’d like to see stories of what others are doing. That may be totally out of your focus, but it wakes me up at night… Besides figuring out how to serve clients.

Hi TJ,
I’d like to do more on small business retirement planning — both from a long-term perspective and shorter-term needs. Our readers run the gamut from 20-somethings to Baby Boomers in their 50s and 60s.
I think small business retirement planning could fall under the category of “small business advice.” Right now as I write this, the survey is showing that as the #1 content type that readers want to see more of.
Probably the best way to handle that would be through guest writer contributions. They would have to be informational articles, and not pushing your client’s own business. Email me if you’re interested in following up.

Hi Anita,
The survey was interesting to do and the feature at the end giving results was great. Well done to you and Ivana

Hi Susan, thanks, but Ivana gets all the credit.
I was a little uneasy at first with displaying the results at the end, but I figured what the heck. If you’ve taken the time to finish the survey, you ought to get a little reward by having your curiosity satisfied. People like to see others’ take on things.
What’s not displayed are the write-in comments and they are absolutely fabulous and enlightening. Very creative suggestions and insights — many thanks to all who are helping out by offering your ideas to make the site better. After the survey is over I’d like to publicly share some of those write-in comments (anonymously, of course, unless you’ve given us express permission to quote you).

I look forward to see the results. I am sorry I didn’t participate. I didn’t see the due date in time due to my recent health problems.
